Dear Agnes,
We are very sad to hear the news. Sam was a great teacher. He has made a long lasting influences on our class: more than 80% of the class went to graduate school and obtained Ph.D. Degree instead of becoming middle school teachers as stated in the mission of National Taiwan Normal University. All of us who took Sam's class respect his knowledge and his scholarly spirit.
I am now teaching upper level students the Molecular Biology of Cancer; I hope I inspired my students the way Sam has inspired us. When I received your e-mail of the sad news, I was preparing the final exam questions. While I was answering my students' last minute questions, now using e-mails, I continued to think about Sam.
Wen-Hwa and I understand that the last part of Sam's journey was very hard for you both. We hope you find some comfort thinking that he had a good fight. Please help us to say a final good-bye to Sam. We would love to meet with your children one day; we saw them when they were really young. Please tell them for us that their father is a wonderful professor and that many of his students have benefited from his teaching. Please take good care of yourself, spend some time with your children and grandchild. We would love to have you when you feel you are ready to travel.
Wen-Hwa and I will send you a letter later.
Eva & Wen-Hwa
